Capsule Geology

The Ruth occurrence is located on the north side of East Barriere Lake, approximately 28 kilometres northeast of Barriere and 80 kilometres northeast of Kamloops.

The area is underlain by Devonian or older Eagle Bay Formation rocks consisting of dark grey phyllites, siltstones and limestone (unit EBGp, Map 56).

Scattered chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite occur in quartz veins within metasediments.

Exploration began in the area in the 1960s; however, data only exists for the EBL showing (MINFILE 082M 051). Much of the exploration in the area was conducted by Barriere Lake Mines. The area was mapped in 1962 and 1963 by R.B. Campbell of the Geological Survey of Canada. In 1965, Barriere Lake Mines completed five drillholes totalling 201.17 metres (660 feet) on a grid in the southeast corner of the claim group adjacent to East Barriere Lake. In 1973, Western Mines Ltd. carried out airborne magnetic and electromagnetic geophysical surveys over the Adon property. In 1986, Titan Resources Ltd. carried out geological mapping and prospecting on the Adon II and Adon V claims to locate the Ruth showing. Four rock samples were collected and analyzed for copper, lead, zinc, silver and gold.

An examination of the area in the mid-1980s could not locate the original veins.

A 76-centimetre drillcore sample from the 1965 drill program assayed 8.84 per cent zinc, 4.71 per cent lead, 0.17 per cent copper, 144 grams per tonne silver and 0.34 gram per tonne gold (Property File, Moore, 1966).
